Single Directorate for Education.

Kerala Govt. took a strategic decision to bring HSE, VHSE and Generala Education Directorates under a single directorate. A five member body was constituted by the education department to submit suggestions on the matter. This is done by a meeting chaired by education special secretary A.Shajahan comprising all the three directors and higher officials. The new arrangement will be headed by an Education Commissioner and under him the three directors will function. Education Commissioner will be a senior IAS officer. Special care will be taken to overcome the officers promotion difficulties. Teacher’s organizations had a mixed response to the proposal. 
As of now, up to high school is under DEO and plus two is under HSE Director and vocational higher secondary under VHSE director. This makes a lot of difficulties in the management of the department. Since HSE has only a single diractorate in the state and it is in Thiruvananthapuram. So students and teachers have to travel a long distance for their needs. If there is a single directorate, the it will have special cells in each district and the procedure will be so easier. Also the conduct of examination will become easy since there is no need for separate preparations for each department. In Higher Secondary schools Head Masters will be designated as Vice Principal. Such recomendations were also there during the tenure of last Government.
